Don’t Judge a Tweeter by a Single Tweet

By August 9, 2010Culture, Innovation

One Tweet should never stand alone in determining the value of a Tweeter. With the rapid fire that most people Twitter 140 characters, the quick thoughts extended are not always a fair representation of the mind, heart and character of the person Tweeting.

There are times I have Tweeted something I wish later I hadn’t.  I have mistyped or misspelled a tweet numerous times.  My auto-correct has finished words for me that were inappropriate.  I have had trouble communicating what I wanted to say in such a small space.  It amazes me how quickly people react to a Tweet gone bad.

If you are going to follow me (or anyone) on Twitter.  Here’s a quick reminder:

Don’t judge a Tweeter by a single Tweet.

We all make mistakes…

Have you made Tweeting errors?  Got any funny examples?

haha… that was EXACTLY the case… when they pointed out the typo all I could really do was shrug and say, "yeah, well…" 🙂

Yeah… I follow a running magazine on Twitter because they actually interact when you toss out a question. I asked about ideas to fit exercise/runs in even if you are working more than one job including some "shift work"…except I mistyped and the "f" was missing. I got some good natured ribbing from the magazine and article author. That funny mishap aside, love our point. It's rapid fire and 140 characters. Cut each other some slack or just unfollow if you're that flipped out by it. Live and let live, I say. Or let die. Whatever. Just don't be so uptight. Just sayin. Great post. Really enjoy following along…

Ha! But the funny thing is either word could potentially work. I\’ve done some of both kinds! Thanks\’

I totally agree. I often say things at the spur of the moment to be sarcastic or thought provoking. But then again, I am usually saying things in a certain way knowing that people following me will know where I am coming from.

I am pretty picky when it comes to following someone. I always open up someones entire twitter page and go back through what they have posted in recent days, or weeks, to make sure they are worth the follow, especially when I am looking at people that started following me.

If I find someone that is just posting the same thing over and over again, or just random quotes they usually end up on this list http://twitter.com/sumyunguy/meaninglesstweets 🙂

  • I put a link up to a picture of my son on posterous and it then goes to twitter. I titled the post "Bad Parents Get THERE Kids Silly Bands.

Within a minute @ChadMissildine pointed it out to me. I was pretty embarrassed.
