Do taste buds change as you get older?

I know I could probably Google this question and get an answer, but I figure my readers will have an answer for me.  Is it just me, or do our tastes change over the years?

Just in the last couple years I’ve learned to love some things I once said I would never eat/drink.

Things like:

Diet drinks
Blue Cheese dressing
Seafood
Creamed spinach
Thousand Island dressing  (Just discovered I love it on the plane ride from Africa)

Have your tastes for things changed over the years?

What do you like now that you once couldn’t stand?

I eat anything! I love to experience food… like a tasting adventure.
I did read that babies and kids taste buds and smells are not fully developed until they are like 5. Therefore, something they liked one day might or might not be their favorite as they grow up. And that explains nothing about me liking all food but it might explain a lot of why my sons hate vegetables now and didn't as a babies. Oh, and I also read that certain things might change your taste buds like smoking and getting older. Thought you might find that interesting too. Now did someone say you could find fried LIVER! and gizzards in a convenience store! Do they sell fried pickles and cow tongue too? OH BOY! I need to find me one of those in GA!

Ha!!! Good information. Yes, we have fried liver and fried gizzards in many of our convenience stores in TN. We buy them by the pound.

Oh goodness yes!! Green peppers used to make me gag. Now I crave them. Same with broccoli. Still can't handle raw onions though (and I'm cool with that). I'm just glad I still love cheesecake : )

Tomatoes – used to ruine my hamburgers, now it’s a delight. Still NO liver.

Gotta have tomatoes. I like chicken liver….fried! In the south we sell them in the gas stations/convenience stores. That and gizzards. If it's fried…I'll eat it.

Odd that you mention this. Just recently I've discovered I like two things I used to hate: onions and yogurt. Just not at the same time.
