10 Life Changing Acts of Courage

One single act of courage can change a life…often many lives.
During my trip to Africa, watching the Christian work that has started among a highly Muslim country, where Christians are not always welcomed, I witnessed firsthand how God used an act of courage. When God gives a person the burden to do Christian work in a Muslim nation, I assure you it takes a great deal of courage. On our trip, we saw the results of such willingness to walk by faith.
It caused me to reflect on some of the acts of courage we often have to make in life. No doubt, if you live a “normal” life there will be decisions you have to make that take courage. You will often have to walk by faith, be willing to risk everything, and trust God for the results, which often seem slow to arrive. Sometimes doing the right thing is not the easiest thing to do. Most of the time, it takes courage to follow your heart, conviction, or God’s calling on your life.
Here are 10 random examples I came up with on the plane that I have had to make or watch my family make in recent years…you’ll have some of your own.
- Leaving the job you hate (or love) so you can start the dream you’ve hidden
- Sacrificing a little (or much) in hopes of receiving far more
- Letting go of the employee who is holding back the team, yet refuses to improve
- Walking by faith when the seeming “reality” appears overwhelming
- Hiring the right employee even when the budget doesn’t yet warrant it
- Confronting the unspoken conflicts in your marriage
- Offering forgiveness even when undeserved
- Acting by faith on God’s call upon your life…even when the odds seem against you
- Ending the friendship that always drags you down
- Trusting again the one who hurt you so much
What is something you have had to do that took a great deal of courage?
