10 Lessons It Took Me Years To Understand

By Ron Edmondson on Saturday, October 31st, 2009 | 8 Comments

Here are 10 lessons it took me years to understand:

  1. If you have to impress the friend, he or she isn’t much of a friend.
  2. “Just once” probably is a bigger deal than led to believe.
  3. The sooner you decide to get your life headed in the right direction the more time you have to enjoy it.
  4. There are few shortcuts to success.
  5. Hard times come naturally in life…determine early to use them for God’s glory and to help others.
  6. Kids grow up too fast. Enjoy them at each stage.
  7. There is wisdom with age. Always be willing to learn from those who have lived and experienced more of life.
  8. The longer you wait to forgive someone the longer it takes to heal your heart.
  9. If you don’t act on what you feel led to do, because of fear or indecision, someone else will and you will miss the blessing.
  10. More success in the world does not automatically bring more happiness, more success with the things that matter most does.

What are some lessons it took you a while to learn?

    1. If you always look to Him, He will provide. Not necessarily what you want, but what you need.

    2. My spouse really is a great gift from God and a precious jewel. And when you don’t take care of that jewel, you can’t enjoy it’s shining and you may lose it.

    3. If you’re always doing number 1, you probably won’t have a problem with number 2.

Fantastic list. Here are a couple of mine:

    1) That whole thing about your sins finding you out…yep. True.
    2) You know the song about The Refiners Fire? That’s hot. Very, very , hot.
    3) When a hard truth needs to be told or when resisting any sort of temptation…win early.

I really enjoy following you on Twitter and reading your posts.

Your lessons are really wise. Here’s one more: Always put the most important thing first. If you are are really, really busy, be really, really sure to put it first.

Rod and Matthew, thanks for the book love. I am actually publishing a devotional book this year from my devotional site (www.mustardseedministry.com) We’ll see how that goes over.

    Thanks Ron.

You have inspired me to write my own list. I shall do so later and hope you will take the time to read it.

You, of course, are no doubt aware that you are a wonderful writer and I trust you have a person on your staff who is searching for a book deal for you.

May you have great experience this week in your pulpit: I’d suggest you stay out of control, scare yourself by taking huge risks, and DEFINE the hell (anything unsettling) out of yourself!

    Have fun….

    Rod
