A Tribute to Walter Cronkite

walter-cronkite2I grew up in the Walter Cronkite era of news journalism.  He was a symbol of integrity and stature. I love that he was dedicated to his work, his country, and his friends.  He could sail a boat, conduct an orchestra, and charm an audience.   Walter Cronkite was called the “most trusted man in America”.  I am not sure we have a title like that anymore.  I wish we did.

He loved his wife and children and supposedly had a great sense humor.  He loved life and seemed to always look for the best in others.   He never seemed to grow to old and was never afraid to learn something new.  He was raised in a Christian home and identified with the Episcopal Church.  Although I do not know much about his faith, news reports indicate he was a man of faith.   He certainly was a guy who learned how to balance well the demands of work, family and play.  I admire him for that.

The passing of Cronkite is surreal to me, because it is another reminder that life keeps moving forward, I keep getting older, and some things change never to be the same again.

And that’s the way it was…
