I would just add to the clear boundaries one – have clear consequences when boundaries are crossed. Kids need to know that breaking rules have impacts to both the near and long term of their lives. I'm not one for extreme punishment but my son recently told me he realized that growing up in our home where he did receive discipline for his "transgressions" helped him greatly when he joined the US Marines (currently active duty) to be able to understand and deal with the real world. – Kind of made me realize the hard job of being a good parent eventually pays off!
